The International Alliance for Appreciative Inquiry (IAAI)
Our Aims
The alliance formed in 2021.
It emerged from a shared desire of its partners to offer strengths-based solutions following a common framework, aimed at English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese speaking regions.
The founding members saw the need to unite to form an entity that guarantees that our services and training are proven in different countries and communities ensuring successful results and generating sustainable positive changes.
The alliance aims to raise awareness of and make the benefits of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) accessible to all. We hope to increase the use of AI approaches in all types of organisations by:
- Offering online and face to face accredited training programmes,
- Supporting communities of AI practice to form and become self-sustaining, and
- Providing external advice and coaching to organisations using AI tools and techniques to support organisational development and performance improvement projects.
Appreciative Inquiry Training
Our training offer builds on the significant AI training developed and delivered in recent years by Appreciating People which has provided AI training to more than 2,000 people in the public and community sectors around the world.
Our training comprises two new certificated IAAI programmes:
- Introduction to AI; and
- Deepening your AI Practice.
Both courses focus on the practical application of AI and aim to strengthen the ‘appreciative muscle’ and foster new self-sustaining communities of AI practice. On successful completion of the two modules participants are awarded “Accredited AI Practitioner” status.
About the International Alliance for Appreciative Inquiry (IAAI)
We are a new partnership between Appreciative Inquiry (AI) practitioners from around the world. All IAAI partners aim to:
- Develop and expand the use of Appreciative Inquiry to improve public and 3rd sector services both in UK and wider afield,
- Improve AI training and development opportunities, and
- Provide peer support opportunities for individuals and organisations that see the potential to use AI based approaches to improve performance.
The alliance is a natural evolution of the long-standing association of the alliance partners who regularly work together, and support each other, whilst retaining their separate brand identities. All IAAI partners have:
- A strong belief in the value of AI approaches.
- Staff trained by leading European development organisations for Appreciative Inquiry such as the Lincoln Workshop Series.
- Deep and broad experience in using AI principles and techniques.
- Access to the training and development experience of Appreciating People and their experience in developing publications (e.g. guides to asset-based working and workbooks). This is complemented by Alder Advice’s experience as advisers on organisational learning, improvement, and transformation.
